Day 01 – Arrival in Colombo / Transfer to Chilaw

Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, your private guide will welcome you and assist with your transfer to Chilaw, approximately 2 to 2.5 hours by car. Begin the journey with visits to Munneswaram Temple, where Lord Rama is said to have offered prayers to Lord Shiva, and Manavari Temple, the site where Rama consecrated his first Shiva Lingam in Lanka. These historic temples are not only spiritually significant but also remarkable for their architecture and rituals that have been maintained for centuries. Overnight stay in Chilaw allows you to rest and take in the serene coastal surroundings.

Day 02 – Chilaw to Trincomalee

After breakfast, depart for Trincomalee, a drive of roughly 6 to 7 hours through scenic countryside and coastal regions. Begin with Koneswaram Temple, perched on Swami Rock, a sacred site visited by Lord Rama according to legend, offering panoramic views of the Indian Ocean. Continue to Lovers’ Leap, a dramatic cliff with folklore associations from the Ramayana. Spend the afternoon relaxing at Nilaveli Beach, enjoying its turquoise waters and pristine sands, making it a perfect blend of history and coastal leisure. Overnight stay in Trincomalee.

Day 03 – Trincomalee to Sigiriya / Kandy

Depart Trincomalee and drive approximately 4 to 5 hours to Sigiriya, home to the iconic Lion Rock Fortress. Explore the village and nearby sites to understand the cultural and mythological significance of the region. After this, continue for a 2.5 to 3 hour drive to Kandy, the cultural capital of Sri Lanka. Visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, a central Buddhist site preserving a relic of Lord Buddha. In the evening, enjoy an optional traditional Kandyan dance performance, offering insight into the region’s performing arts heritage. Overnight stay in Kandy.

Day 04 – Kandy to Nuwara Eliya

Travel from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya, a journey of approximately 2.5 to 3 hours through the central highlands. Stop at Ramboda Falls, a breathtaking waterfall surrounded by lush tea plantations. Visit Gregory Lake and enjoy a leisurely walk or boat ride while taking in the serene atmosphere and colonial charm of the area. Overnight stay in Nuwara Eliya allows you to relax in the cool hill country climate and explore the town at your own pace.

Day 05 – Nuwara Eliya to Kataragama

Depart Nuwara Eliya for Kataragama, a longer drive of around 6 to 7 hours, passing through diverse landscapes from misty mountains to flat southern plains. Explore the Kataragama Temple, a sacred site revered by both Hindus and Buddhists, known for its vibrant rituals and mythological importance. Optionally, take a safari in the nearby Yala or Bundala National Park to witness Sri Lanka’s wildlife, including leopards, elephants and exotic birds. Overnight stay in Kataragama.

Day 06 – Kataragama to Colombo / Departure

After breakfast, drive approximately 4.5 to 5 hours back to Colombo. Depending on your flight schedule, there may be time for a brief city tour including Panjamuga Anjaneya Temple, Vibhishana Temple or a walk along Galle Face Green. Reflect on your journey tracing the Ramayana legends while preparing for your onward departure.
